Twelve years. Thirty production systems. Eight programming languages. One standard.

When this system breaks — what happens to the people who depend on it?

If the answer is "a small inconvenience," I can accept risk. If the answer is "a borrower's loan is incorrectly approved" or "a breach is not detected for six months" — the risk tolerance drops to near zero.

Every architectural decision is in service of that standard. Every late night tracking down a reconciliation error.

The systems I am most proud of are the ones nobody had to call me about. Invisible, reliable, lasting. That is the standard.
